140th Anniversary Celebration 1884-2024

On Sunday, November 10, 2024 we celebrated 140 years in service to God and the community!  Thank you to all who made the 140th Anniversary Celebration a success! From the beautiful décor from Becky Hall to the delicious food catered by JoAnne Jones to the sharing of memories, it was a wonderful day!

The festivities began with the dedication of the new prayer wall that will reside in the Narthex followed by a catered luncheon and desserts. A group picture was taken with all those in attendance, as well as the guest book signed. The service had music played by Sandy Kopp, and a special solo of “Precious Memories” sung by Karen Pearce. Former Pastor Jack Meservey and former Lay Leader Burt Pearce shared messages of their time serving Whaleyville MC along with their reflections on the scriptures for the service. A prayer of re-consecration for the church as Whaleyville Methodist Church was led by Jennifer Rennie, Scott Anderson, and Clyde Hoover. Jennifer Rennie presented the history of the church, and Glenn Jones shared some memories growing up in the church then opened up the reminiscing to anyone who would like to share a story or memory. It was inspiring to hear the stories of families who served Whaleyville for generations.

If you were unable to attend, local artist, Demetrius Dillard, drew a rendition of WMC for the 140th, and his commemorative prints are available for purchase in the Fellowship Hall. Also available is a program from the event that contains the full church’s history, pastoral history, and parsonage history. These are by the entry way to the Fellowship Hall. Thank you again and for pledging that we would all be available for the 200th! -JR
